TEST FLAMMABILITY OF IGNITABILITY OF FABRICS, BEDDING ITEMS, MATTRESSES AND UPHOLSTERED DIVANS ACCORDING TO REQUIREMENTS BS 5867 PART 2, BS 6807, BS 7177, BS 7176 AND BS EN ISO 15025

The British technical requirements for the resistance to the use of residential buildings and premises in public service facilities define the following standards:
  1. BS 7176: 2008 +A1: 2011: Specification for resistance to ignition of upholstered furniture for non – domestic by testing composites
  2. BS 7177: 2008 +A1: 2011: Specification for resistance to ignition of mattresses, divans and bed bases
  3. BS 5867: Part 2: 2008: Fabrics for curtains, drapes and windows blinds. Flammability requirements. Specification
  4. BS 6807: 2006: Methods of test for assessment of the ignitability of mattresses, upholstered divans and upholstered bed bases with flaming types of primary and secondary sources of ignition

I. Upholstered furniture
BS 7176: 2008 +A1: 2011: Specification for resistance to ignition of upholstered furniture for non – domestic by testing composites
Types used ignition sources Isx (BS 5852: 2006) depends on the required level of risk:
  1. For low hazard
– smoldering cigarette -IS0
– match flame equivalent - IS1
  1. For medium hazard –
– smoldering cigarette -IS0
– match flame equivalent - IS1
– wooden crib source -IS5
  1. For high hazard
– smoldering cigarette -IS0
– match flame equivalent - IS1
– wooden crib source -IS7
  1. For very high hazard
– smoldering cigarette -IS0
– match flame equivalent - IS1
– wooden crib source -IS7
